HP Onboard Administrator configuration Backup and firmware Upgrade Process
First, We need to take the backup of OA configuration before going to upgrade . Below are the steps.
Below are the steps to take backup of current OA configuration.
Method 1:
1. Access active OA (Onboard Administrator) IP address from internet browser.

2. Login to OA with administrator credentials.
3. Go to Enclosure Information> Enclosure Settings> Configuration Scripts in left pane.
4. Select “SHOW CONFIG” hyperlink from right pane. It will load current configuration settings in another browser window.
5. Please wait for 5 to 7 minutes to let it load configuration settings completely.
6. Copy all the information from Internet Browser and paste this to a notepad file and save this file in .txt format.
Method 2:
1. Access active OA (Onboard Administrator) IP address from putty
2. Enable logging on putty (click Logging , then click the radio button that says All session output , click Browse , then save it somewhere and call it oa_show_config.txt )
3. Login to OA with administrator credentials.
4. Run “SHOW CONFIG” command and wait till it completes.
5. Now confirm, if all the output has been saved on file created in step2.
Below are the steps to upgrade OA firmware.
- Kindly access active OA (Onboard Administrator) IP address from internet browser of system on which you have download OA firmware .bin file (hpoaXXX.bin).
2. Login to OA with administrator credentials.
3. Go to Active Onboard Administrator> Firmware Update
4. Under “Local File” browse to location of OA firmware .bin file (i.e. hpoaXXX.bin Here XXX refers to version number) and click on “Upload”
5. Kindly wait till firmware update completes, OA will reset itself after successful upgrade of OA firmware.
6. Kindly check for OA connectivity after 5-7 minutes of OA reset.
Default Queries:
All servers are 2003/2008 servers, once we upgrade then are we get any 2003/2008 server compatibility issues??
- Firmware is independent of OS. this is OA firmware upgrade in general does not impact blade servers installed on the enclosure. OA modules are to monitor the hardware health of complete enclosure and blades installed in the enclosure. This is just a management interface.
How much time the HP engineer will come and fix the issue if any issue occurred .
- HP would not be able to confirm any ETA regarding fix, if any un-expected issue happens during/after firmware upgrade.They would recommend you to contact us immediately, if any such issue happens during/after firmware upgrade. We will work further with you then and do our level best to get this issue resolved at earliest.
Once we upgrade the OA firmware then it will upgrade the BIOS and iLO firmware also??
HP recommend blade servers firmware upgrade first(BIOS & iLO), then OA firmware update.
