Configuring a new Domain Controller for a new forest
Install a system with server operating system (win 2012, win 2008).
- Provide a unique name to the server after installing server OS.
- Configure the server with a static IP’s which is accessible in local network.
- To add the Active Directory services we have to install the roles of Active Directory and its corresponding features.
- After installing and enabling the Active Directory roles we need to configure the AD in the server OS.
Goto “run” -> type “dcpromo.exe” and press enter.
For a new DC in a new forest select “ Create a new domain in a new forest “ and click “next”.
Provide a FQDN of the forest (for example: “hyaking.com”) and click Next.
Set Forest Functional level and Domain Functional level (preferably 2008 for a new DC in a new forest) and click next.
Select DNS server as additional option for this server.
Provide location for database, log files & SYSVOL folders on local server and click Next.
Authenticate by providing the password and click Next.
Check the summary of the procedure and check the details and click Next to continue.
This will continue the installation of Active Directory service and reboot the server on completion.
A new Domain Controller has been configured and ready to use. This server will act as a Primary Domain Controller for the forest. We can have n no. of Additional Domain Controllers in the same forest in different locations.
